NEW DELHI: The special session of Parliament will start in the old building on September 18 and will be later moved to the new building on September 19 on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
The Centre has called for a special session of Parliament for five days between September 18 and 22.
Earlier, Parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi said in a tweet said that the session is being organised to pay tribute to government’s Amrit Kaal.
“Special Session of Parliament (13th Session of 17th Lok Sabha and 261st Session of Rajya Sabha) is being called from 18th to 22nd September having five sittings. Amid Amrit Kaal looking forward to having fruitful discussions and debate in Parliament,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Centre’s move caught political circles and the opposition by surprise and triggering speculation about Lok Sabha polls being advanced to be held along with the coming round of assembly elections scheduled for November-December.
The government aims to hold fruitful discussions and debate in the upcoming session of the Parliament.
Meanwhile, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a discussion and debate on several issues including the current economic situation of the country.
In her letter to the PM, Sonia Gandhi said that the Opposition most certainly wants to participate in the special session as it will give an opportunity to raise matters of public concern and importance.
She further said that the session is being held without any consultation with other political parties and none of them have any idea on the agenda for the session.
“You have convened a special five-day session of the Parliament beginning 18 September 2023. I must point out that this Special Session has been convened without any consultation with other political parties. None of us have any idea of its agenda,” she said in her letter.
The monsoon session of parliament, which concluded last month, was held in the old Parliament building.
