Kareena Kapoor Khan fans have reason to rejoice. They will soon get to see her headlining Sujoy Ghosh’s upcoming thriller Jaane Jaan. The best part? The film will be released on Kareena Kapoor’s birthday, September 21. The announcement was shared by Netflix, the streaming platform hosting the film. The announcement came in the form of a teaser that opens with Kareena Kapoor mouthing the iconic song Aa Jane Jaan featuring Helen from Intaquam. The teaser also features Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma in a noir-like setting. We also see the characters laughing, playing with fire (literally and figuratively), and landing some punches.
Sharing the teaser, Kareena Kapoor wrote, “Jaane Jaan is coming on our very own Jaane Jaan’s birthday. Mark your calendars for a present like no other. #JaaneJaan arrives on 21 September, only on Netflix!” The film marks Kareena Kapoor’s OTT debut. In response, Zoya Akhtar dropped a heart and heart-eye emoji.
As per reports, Jaane Jaan by Sujoy Ghosh is based on The Devotion of Suspect X, the 2005 bestselling novel by Japanese author Higashino Keigo. Speaking to Variety about the project, Kareena Kapoor, “I can’t wait to begin work on this exciting project. It’s one that has all the right ingredients – a great story, a visionary director and a super-talented cast and crew. I’m really looking forward to working with Sujoy, Jaideep, and Vijay. It’s the beginning of an electrifying journey and I can’t wait for audiences worldwide to see this global bestseller book come to life.”
Jaane Jaan and her other upcoming project The Buckingham Murders [tentative title] are both thrillers. About this, the actress said, “For me, it’s very different because obviously you’re used to seeing me in all the mainstream movies, which have the song, the dance, the gloss, the glamour. Both these films are shockingly different.”
About her streaming debut, Kareena Kapoor said, “I am excited to be coming on Netflix with a very special project. After 23 years, this feels like a new launch and I have the jitters of a new-comer! Audiences will see me in a role I have never played before, with a story that is so unique and thrilling. Netflix has always showcased films from different parts of the world in the most authentic manner, backing artists who love what they do and giving them a platform to reach 190 countries! I am looking forward to seeing the viewers react to a role that I believe is one of my best!”
Apart from Jaane Jaan and The Buckingham Murders, Kareena Kapoor will also be seen in The Crew with Tabu and Kriti Sanon.
