NEW DELHI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday formed a 16-member central election committee ahead of key assembly polls this year.
Besides himself, the panel includes former presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
It also has Ambika Soni, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Salman Khurshid, Madhusudan Mistry, Uttam Kumar Reddy, TS Singh Deo, KJ Geogre, Pritam Singh, Mohammed Jawed, Amee Yajnik, PL Punia, Omkar Markam and KC Venugopal.
The committee has been formed just months ahead of crucial assembly elections in states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
In 2018, the Congress had defeated BJP in all the three states. However, the BJP wrested power in Madhya Pradesh following a rebellion by Jyotiraditya Scindia.
